This Week’s Translation

食品会社の会長がアーチェリーの矢で殺された事件の現場に、小五郎のおじさんとボクが行ったんだ。
第一発見者は秘書の人で、被害者の顔はなぜか笑顔だったんだって!
容疑者は駆けつけた会長の息子さん兄弟で、2人は無実を証明するため、矢が放たれたらしい場所から実際に矢を射ることになったんだけど…!?

Kogoro and I found ourselves at a crime scene. A chairman of a food company was shot dead with an arrow.

The first witness was the secretary, and for some reason the victim was smiling. The suspects were the chairman’s own sons who rushed over to the scene of the crime! To prove their innocence, they decided to shoot an arrow from the suspected location it was fired!

And after a short break we are back with another anime original episode. My thoughts? Well, it was… an episode.
From start to finish, this episode was weird. Here’s some observations:

• Clear set up by Tachibana
• The brothers are beyond ignorant
• The opening scene was kinda messed up
• The dad pitting the brothers against each other
• The dad smiling like Gol D. Roger when he was killed

Did he have suspicions that Tachibana was out for revenge? Did he want his legacy to go up in flames? If so, this was a perfect way to do it. The only reasoning I can find on why he would bring her on is that he was aware of who she was and wanted to atone.

While I was looking up who wrote this episode it all made sense: it’s a Urasawa Yoshio episode. Same guy that brought us episodes like The Genius Restaurant, Intrigue at Smile Village, and Ballad of the Woman Who Loved Cake. He’s known for his weird episodes so it’s a relief that this wasn’t an out of pocket fever dream of an episode.

It’s rare to see a murder get censored in Detective Conan. Hopefully this won’t be a trend going further.

On another note, knowing Kogoro he probably would have taken them up on that offer. Good thing Conan was speaking for him. And good on him for giving them a warning.

A president of an investment firm was found dead in the mansion!
While Takagi and the others started investigating the locked room murder, 3 relatives stepped forward one by one claiming they are the culprit!

Who is lying and who is telling the truth?!

This episode reminded me of the drama from soap operas. We start off with 3 people confessing to a murder only to bring in another suspect mid way through the episode. Have to give props to Ran for coming up with the relationship chart. Putting it together helped Conan figure out a deeper truth: Keiko’s father is actually Hajime. Keiko had the idea that she was dating Mitsumasa but I guess that’s out of the question now… right? Besides, the guy has a thing for his brother’s wife. And she accepted those feelings… this is some Jerry Springer type of mess (;^ω^).

Figured it would end up as a suicide but the guy just died due to unfortunate events. Really don’t understand why he’d keep the door locked knowing his heart condition is fatal. Nonetheless, he wasn’t the most stand up kinda guy. Judging his father for being fake yet profiting off his so called fraudulent character by living a good life, driving his wife to suicide due to his adulterous activities, and being a jerk to his little brother. Everyone seemed like they had a motive but they clammed up when Conan asked how they did it.

Found the episode entertaining overall. Conan even asked Ran what she thinks of people lying. I feel as though he asked partly due to his own lie to her. Four people lying to protect someone else. Kinda nice to see but surely they’ll get reprimanded for messing with the investigation.

Looks like we got another break coming. For the next two weeks, Japan will be airing a remastered episode for the Trick vs Magic case.

A person living in an apartment complex hired Kogoro to catch a porch pirate, so Ran and I tagged on the stakeout.

But as soon as we dropped our guard, a package was stolen!
We ran after the culprit in a panic. However, when we looked into their apartment they ducked into, we found a man on the ground!

Another good anime original episode. I thought the nurse would be the one who ended up doing it since she called Kogoro in for the job. Plus with her background in the sciences, I would have thought the chlorine gas would be an easy task for her to pull off and somehow get a hold of it.

Figured it was pepper spray or something. Surely there could have been a better way to pull the prank and catch him. Like one of those glitter bombs or something. Kinda like this:

Shame that Mariko lost her late husband’s watch to this guy selling it off. Get the motive but dang what an interesting way to commit murder. I would think she would at least make sure it didn’t have traces after setting up something so intricate. And get rid of the pants. Why are you still wearing something that could link you to the murder?

Next Episode is…

I think we’ve seen something similar a long time ago. It was a case where three people hit some hard headed guy and they had to piece together who actually killed him.

As for the Conan Hint: 相関図 – Relationship Chart

I really like this chart. It’s nice to see the Aoyama’s design for himself on his characters. Find it interesting that the ladies all have a normal smile while the guys have this mischievous grin.

We ran into the Detective Boys’ rival – The Silver Detectives!
Even though they lost a member in the last case, they’re still up and kicking.
Out of nowhere, we got a request to find someone’s lost husband.
The Detective Boys and the Silver Detectives are on the case!

Today’s Episode

Wasn’t expecting to see these guys back at it again. Still wish there was a Conan in their Silver Detective group. Unfortunately, they lost him in the previous part. Would have thought they’d got a replacement. Then again, perhaps they stumble across this stuff without having breaks. Heck, even Haibara was floored by how rash they were being.

Curious about the 300 year old dead body but it was quite sad to find out he killed his own son when he was just trying to save him. Tatsuya still could’ve bounced back from it but this one mistake was too heavy for him. On top of that, to hide it from the wife and then she dies.

Nice to see the Silver Detectives again. Kinda makes me wonder if this is what Genta, Mitsuhiko and Ayumi are going to look like when they get older.

On another note, where the heck did they find the lost husband?

The end credit scene looped back to the first one. The Silver Detectives wanted to learn from the Detective Boys. Now they are saying their the teachers.

それで小五郎のおじさんにその人を捜して欲しいみたい。
それで彼女が消えた時の状況を聞いてみたんだけど…!?

The heir to a conglomerate requested Kogoro for a case so Ran and I tagged along.
He apparently fell in love at first sight with a woman who showed up at a party yesterday leave only a shoe behind as she ran away.

So, it’s up to Kogoro to track her down. As we asked for more details we stumbled on quite the surprise!

Today’s Episode

After seeing the preview last week, I thought it was going to be a goofy fever dream from that one writer named Urasawa. Found the set up interesting for the most part. A fairy tale story turning into a nightmare sums up this episode. Feel bad for the guy. He thought he had found his soulmate. I liked the reference to Cinderella. My first suspicion on Reira was when she took the other shoe off but didn’t take the one that came off when she was running away.

Unfortunately, it was clear that Reira was playing him. But, I didn’t think she went as far as killing people. And to think no one found it strange that they haven’t seen the other two for months. I’m kinda curious how it all started.

And that judo flip was unexpected. He’s a lot more reliable than I thought. His dad had the right idea getting him self-defense classes.

The Detective Boys were talking about how they saw Kamen Yaiba coming to the park every morning. But, when Haibara and I went to go check it out, it was actually him!

Ah, the obligatory anime original episode to promote this years movie. Was wondering how this episode was going to tie into the movie. And speaking of the movie, “Highway Fallen Angel” has hit a new record for the franchise: earned 1.13 billion yen on the first day! But let’s get on with today’s episode.

Was not expecting them to have matching Detective Boys jackets. Even Haibara is rocking one. Bit surprised she didn’t make Conan wear one.

I do wish that we had Chihaya show up to handle the motorcycle case. Even Takagi wanted her to show up and had a flashback. Unfortunately for him, Sato wasn’t feeling that at all and now Takagi is going to be in the investigation room soon (;^ω^).

It was nice that he was able to show up in Kamen Yaiba. Funny thing is the only reason why he sounds like Kamen Yaiba is because they have the same voice actor. On top of that, this voice actor, Wataru Takagi, also voices Genta and Detective Takagi (yes, they share the same first and last names). So he was doing four voice roles for this episode.

I also liked the shot where Conan pieces the puzzles together and Haibara is looking over to him like “ah, he’s got that look again”.
