    The Detective Boys were talking about how they saw Kamen Yaiba coming to the park every morning. But, when Haibara and I went to go check it out, it was actually him!

    An anime original mystery tied to that case in Kanagawa!

    Ah, the obligatory anime original episode to promote this years movie. Was wondering how this episode was going to tie into the movie. And speaking of the movie, “Highway Fallen Angel” has hit a new record for the franchise: earned 1.13 billion yen on the first day! But let’s get on with today’s episode.

    Was not expecting them to have matching Detective Boys jackets. Even Haibara is rocking one. Bit surprised she didn’t make Conan wear one.

    I do wish that we had Chihaya show up to handle the motorcycle case. Even Takagi wanted her to show up and had a flashback. Unfortunately for him, Sato wasn’t feeling that at all and now Takagi is going to be in the investigation room soon (;^ω^).

    It was nice that he was able to show up in Kamen Yaiba. Funny thing is the only reason why he sounds like Kamen Yaiba is because they have the same voice actor. On top of that, this voice actor, Wataru Takagi, also voices Genta and Detective Takagi (yes, they share the same first and last names). So he was doing four voice roles for this episode.

    I also liked the shot where Conan pieces the puzzles together and Haibara is looking over to him like “ah, he’s got that look again”.

    でもボク達が銃声の直後、現場へ駆けつけたんだけど、犯人は誰にも目撃されず消えちゃってたんだ。
    館内を調べると建物自体も作品の一部みたいだったから、ボクは仕掛けに気づいて隠し部屋を発見!
    でも第2の事件が起きて…!?

    We took a trip to a museum that had spiral themed artworks which turned into a murder case!

    After hearing the gunshot, we rushed to the crime scene, only to find the culprit had vanished! After searching the building we found out the building had a hidden room! But then a second murder occurred!

    Seemed like it would turn up that way. Neji was the only one that could pull it off. I sort of understand the motives in both murders. However, I thought Neji would have another reason to kill them both other than selling art and blackmail. Then again, if she knew what Satoshi was up to, she could have used that as a counter.

    The spiral building is interesting. Was not expecting another hidden room. I guess that is how she could have quickly did the job and escape. Unfortunately for her, Kazumi knew something was off and pushed even more for her to join his company instead. Don’t know if it was out of friendship or love but the guy’s heart was in the right place. Even went as far as throwing a brick off the roof to clear her of suspicion. At that point, I thought they were in on it together.

    Bit curious about the end credit scene though. Was that implying that the artist Tsurufuji had a hand in killing the architect of the building? Plus, that room seems to hold a few mysteries that remain unresolved. Plus, it would have added another twist, if she ended up being the daughter of the artist. Or even the architect who truly made the building. Would be nice revisit this place but I have a feeling that this case is closed.

    On another note, this month’s end card is adorable. Wish we could get some more kid cases from when Shinichi and Ran were at Teitan Elementary. Or hey, the Detective Boys solving a case or two at school would be nice.

    And here we are, the annual movie promotion episode. Excited to see how they tie this together with the next movie. Still haven’t seen last year’s film due to the US not having it (´；ω；`)ｳｩｩ. At least the manga adaptation is out to hold me over.

    The contemporary art displayed in the museum is spiral themed. Even the building was made by the artist!
    As the curator showed us around, a gunshot echoed through the building!

    Haven’t seen such an interesting anime original case in a while. If someone told me that the person who wrote this original was a Gurren Lagann fan I’d believe them. That tower of Babel looks like Simon’s necklace/mech key. Plus, there are so many spirals to make anyone dizzy (◎﹏◎). Found it interesting how this is a key to getting to the secret floor. Even the placard felt like a riddle from a RPG.

    The character designs look fantastic in this episode. Sometimes Conan’s head looks a little too big in other episodes but this was just right. On another note, it’s funny Ran’s hair looks as if it is staring the drill drown in one shot.

    Ran’s Hair: 喧嘩売ってるの？(Are you picking a fight?)
    Drill: 俺のセリフだ！かかってこい！(That’s what I should be saying! Bring it on!)

    Looks like we’ve got an interesting case. The culprit might be Neji. It would be kinda crazy if she’s like their half sibling or something that’s out for revenge. I mean she seems to have a reason to stick around as the curator of this mansion. Perhaps she feels some closeness to the artist (father?) by working here.

  • Detective Conan Episode 1194 – Kid VS Hakuba: The Azure Throne (Part Two)

    ベルツリータワーの天空の展示室に飾られた「青の玉座」を狙う怪盗キッドの警備に気になる所を見つけたボクは展示室へ駆けつけたんだ!

    そしたら亡くなっている展示室を作った吉田社長と怪盗キッドがいて、展示室の入り口が封鎖されちゃった!

    ボク達は事件を解決するために、キッドに新一兄ちゃんの変装をしてもらうことに。
    そして現れたのは、高校生探偵の「白馬 探」って人だったんだ!
    そしてボクとキッドが推理を進めたんだけど…!?

    After noticing something off with security, I ran to the exhibition room where the “Azure Throne” – Kaito Kid’s next target – was being displayed!

    Once there, I found President Kichida who built the exhibition and Kaito Kid. Shortly after, the room was locked down!

    To solve the case, Kid disguised himself as Shinichi-nichan. That is when the high school detective “Hakuba Suguru” appeared! And so, Kid and I started solving the case!

    Awesome set up. Was wondering how the scuff marks on Kichida’s shoes were going to come into play. Was not expecting Kyuya to be a former firefighter.

    And it is great to have a competent detective around. Unfortunately, he couldn’t seal the deal. I did find it funny that they talked about not having high schoolers solving mysteries.

    Was expecting Ran to flip Kaitou after she grabbed him. It’s moments like this where you have to appreciate Ran. Speaking of Ran, the voice actress’ sister had to step in for these two episodes. She’s the voice actress for Nami in One Piece. Its funny that I never heard the resemblance considering I caught up with these shows at the same time. Now that I think about it, they sound quite alike.

    Hakuba knew something was up but it doesn’t seem like he has actually caught on. Surely, he has and is just covering for Conan, right? There are three possibilities:

    • Hakuba has figured it out and is covering for Conan to keep the secret.
    • He actually thinks Conan is talking for Shinichi.
    • He thinks Conan is being protective of Ran.

    Hopefully we’ll get to see more of him in the future. Maybe even Eisuke can come back from America.

    The next episode’s thing with spirals have me thinking about Gurren Lagann XD.

  • Detective Conan Episode 1193 – Kid VS Hakuba: The Azure Throne (Part One)

    Welcome! MeitanteiBunshou here with some thoughts on today’s Detective Conan. We are back with another canon episode. It’s technically the first canon case of the year.

    We also got a concert in Japan to promote the movie coming next month.

    ベルツリータワーに世界最大級のタンザナイトが飾り付けられた「青の玉座」を展示した鈴木次郎吉さんが、怪盗キッド対策で天空の展示室を増設したんだって!

    ボクと蘭姉ちゃん、園子姉ちゃんも中森警部たちと一緒に警備室でモニターを見ながら待機してたんだけど、気になる部分が…!

    ボクが展示室へ駆けつけると、展示室を工事した社長さんの遺体と怪盗キッドがいたんだ!
    でもその時、展示室が封鎖されちゃって…!?

    The Azure Throne that dons the world’s largest tanzanite is being displayed at the Bell Tree Tower and Suzuki is taking measures to stop Kaito Kid from stealing it!

    While we were in the security room with Inspector Nakamori, I noticed something was off about the monitor!

    I ran off to the exhibition room and found a dead body – The president of the construction company that set up the security. And at the scene of the crime was Kaito Kid himself!

    And that’s when the room went on locked down trapping us inside!

    Nice to see Hakuba after so long. And I do mean a long time. The guy hasn’t been in a Detective Conan episode since The Gathering of the Detectives! Shinichi Kudo vs. Kaitou Kid back in 2001. He does show up more often in the Magic Kaito anime but I’m glad to see another detective make a well waited reappearance.

    The fact that Shinichi and Kaito still don’t understand why they look so much a like is funny to me. Given the common ancestor comment, they should really have a conversation with their parents.

    Bit worried for Kaito playing detective as Shinichi in this situation though. He doesn’t like to back down from a challenge or be outdone. Plus, his pride as a master of disguise is on the line to pull this off. I feel bad for Conan in this situation, too. His image as a detective can take a hit.

    Or worse, being figured out by Hakuba, that would be-

    On another note, Conan (Shinichi) is becoming quite the smooth operator with Ran. I don’t know how this case is going to end, but I’m looking forward to the next episode.

  • Detective Conan Episode 1192 – Tsuburaya Mitsuhiko’s Detective Notes 4

    Mitsuhiko was immersed in reading Holme’s “Adventure of the Abbey Grange”. I’m familiar with the story so Mitushiko told the others about it. On our way home, a stray led us to a house where we found the corpse of a has-been actor!

    Mitsuhiko notices something off with the “three glasses” mystery at the crime scene. They were reminiscent of the wine glasses in the mystery book he was reading.

    After a month of remasters in Japan, we get another installment in Mitsuhiko’s Notebook series. This time around, we are looking into a case similar to Sherlock Holmes’ “The Adventure of the Abbey Grange”. Coincidentally, I finished a Sherlock Holmes game that covered this case. Too bad these robbers didn’t consider that they’d get caught for their “celebration”. But, this is supposed to be based off the Abbey Grange case so I’ll let it slide.

    Mitsuhiko’s deduction was spot on. He did not know the motive but the evidence stacked against Toichiro. If those robbers didn’t break in, the alibi would have been more complex to figure out. Luckily, they got a confession and clued Conan in on their location and act as a witness. Plus, Mitsuhiko stepping in to protect Haiabara was cool. It’s a nice call back to the beginning of the episode when she did the same for him.

    I’m curious what the old scandal was about for it to drive Hakozaki to kill him.

    Mitsuhiko is still on the path to becoming Watson to Conan’s Holmes. It’d be cool if Shinichi and Heiji can take him on as an apprentice or a partner someday. The kid deduced the time and the trick with the wristwatch. Surely, when he’s a high schooler he can be known as the Reiwa Holmes.

    On another note, the end card with Shinichi and Heiji shopping for White Day presents was nice.

    Up next we finally get the Kaito Kid episode. Excited to see how Kaito gets out of this one.

    鳥取県の三朝温泉に来たボクと蘭姉ちゃん、小五郎のおじさんは、恋谷橋にいたカップルが引き離されたのを見たんだ。

    1人は旅館の跡取りで、結婚を反対されて悩んでたみたい。
    次の日の朝、その人が失踪したって騒ぎになったんだけど、それはカップルの2人が仕組んだ狂言だったんだ。

    でも本当に誘拐されて、犯人から身代金の要求が!
    果たして事件の真相は?そして2人の運命は…!?

    Ran-neechan, Kogoro-no-ojisan, and I came to Misasa Hot Springs in Tottori Prefecture. That is when we saw a couple get pulled away from each other at Pont Koitani Bridge.

    One of them was the sole heiress to an inn and it seems she’s worried about her marriage being opposed. The very next morning, she disappeared which caused panic, but it was set up by the couple.

    Until it wasn’t.

    She ended being kidnapped and the culprit demanded a ransom!
    What is the truth behind the case? What will be the fate of these two lovers?!

    Glad that Kogoro got to shine during this case. He didn’t get to reveal the whole truth but with some help from Conan, Kogoro was able to solve a good chunk of the case. Conan did some clean up and the unexpected “mastermind” of all this was revealed to be Yoshino, the waitress at the inn.

    Figured the uncle had something to do with it but didn’t expect that the waitress at the inn had anything to do with it. I guess she went under a pseudonym so they wouldn’t connect her to the family that made the kimono. Kinda sad what can happen in a property dispute. As they felt guilt, hopefully when she gets out, she can start her family business again.

    It’s kind of crazy to have the uncle be so manipulated into using this as the trick. He could have completely ignored her and carried it out some other way. Plus, it was lucky that Sachiyo was smart enough to get a message out. If he wanted to get away with it he really should have left it to one video or just have photo up while he asks them to run the money.

    On another note, I hope that Shinichi makes a comeback this year.

    Oh, if only she knew he’s always there beside her.

    No new episode next week. Looks like we are getting Chihaya’s debut episode in Japan remastered for the two weeks. Weird to do a remaster for something that came out in 2023 but since she plays a major role in this years film, this must be something they have planned for people to get reacquainted with her character.

    途中、三朝川の恋谷橋にいたカップルがそれぞれのおうちの人に引き離されちゃってたんだ。
    女の人のほうは、ボクたちが泊まる旅館の跡取りでなんだか悩んでるみたい。
    でも次の日、行方不明になって…!?

    Ran-neechan won a Sanin Region Hot Springs Tour at the Beika Shopping District, so I took the Super Hakuto to the Misasa Hot Springs with Ran-neechan and Kogoro-no-ojisan!

    On the way, a couple at the Pont Koitani Bridge were being pulled away from each other by their families. The woman that was pulled away just so happens to be the next heiress of the inn we’re staying at and it looks like she’s got some troubles.

    But the very next day, she went missing!

    Another tour in Tottori and a Rome and Juliet-esque relationship. Happy to see the Tottori sand dunes make another comeback in the series. Hopefully they show off more delicacy in the next episode while we track down the kidnapper.

    It is great to see Kogoro shining and figuring things out on his own. Hopefully, we can have him solve the case with the help of these two officers from the Tottori Sand Dunes Mystery Tour. Feared that this might turn into a murder case with the aunt being the way she is. But, we got a breath of fresh air with a kidnapping instead.

    Considering we have some key suspects that need the money it is tough to say who it is. I am curious if the uncle knows anything else or is he the accomplice. Plus, Sachiyo’s delivery in the video is a bit weird. As if it is being poorly acted out. This might end up being a “I kidnapped myself” kinda case.

    An another note, did Kogoro just throw Conan in the preview for the next episode XD.

    ボクと小五郎のおじさんは、ロビーに大きなからくり時計が飾られているホテルに行ったんだ。 そのからくり時計職人のお弟子さんが、脅迫状が送られてきたから護衛して欲しいって依頼みたい。

    でもそのホテルから離れた湖で、阿笠博士と灰原が発見したのはボートに乗せられた時計職人のお師匠さんの遺体だったんだ! 警察の捜査で依頼人のお弟子さんとケンカしてた事もわかったんだけど、その人には不可能なはずで…!?

    Kogoro and I went to a hotel where a big clock was on display. That very clock was made by an apprentice clock-maker who received a threatening letter and Kogoro was requested to guard him.

    But at a lake far from the hotel, Professor Agasa and Haibara found the corpse of a master clock-maker in a boat! The police investigation revealed that the apprentice had a fight with the victim, but there’s no way he could have done it!

    It was obvious from the start but the method was a bit complex. Leave it to a clock-maker to mess with time and alibis. Unfortunately for him, the set up for the trick was too obvious and was eventually going to be found out. Especially given that someone could have saw the motor in his car. Plus, the guy who likes to fish going fishing… where it is out of season. Definitely fishy indeed.

    I liked that they added Haibara and Agasa into this episode. Usually, Kogoro and Conan are flying solo, so this was a breath of fresh air to have someone else discover the body. It would be nice to see more characters we don’t get to see often show up in the original anime episodes. Like Eisuke or Yoko or have some cameos from the Kaito Kid cast.

    I truly wonder how common it is for a “master” to take their apprentice’s work. Too bad this isn’t Persona 5 and they couldn’t have the guy have a change of heart instead. They gave us another potential suspect but given she seemed to not be around at the time nailed the true culprit even easier.

    Funny how Natsumi has better instincts than Kogoro. Luckily, she slowed the culprit down with the handcuffs. I would have found it a bit more entertaining if she found out Conan is the puppeteer of the great detective. In fact, that would have brought this “benefiting from other’s work” around quite nicely. But then again, perhaps its for the best she doesn’t get the idea of not meeting your heroes so early.

    On another note, I am a curious why Kogoro used that escape route but I guess that will remain a mystery.

    And we are taking a trip to Aoyama sensei’s birth prefecture – Tottori!
    It will be quite a treat to revisit Tottori and a perfect celebration for the 30th anniversary.

  • Detective Conan Episode 1188 – Follow Them! Detective Taxi 3

    市長さんに大歓迎されたんだけど、なんだか様子がおかしいみたい。
    しかもそのとんでもないイベントの裏では、ある計画も進んでて…!?

    Kogoro and I were invited to be special guests at an event in Furai City so we got dressed up!

    We got picked up by the “Kogoro Otaku” taxi driver Ishikawa Genki and headed for the town hall.
    The mayor gave us a grand welcome but, something’s off – a scheme being plotted behind the scenes!

    Love the new OP and ED!

    It’s been a while since I heard B’z in OP or an ED!
    This has to be one of the best ways to get the new year of Detective Conan episodes going.
    So many cameos and references. I don’t know where the anime will take us this year but here’s hoping it’s a good year!

    Mai Kuraki’s gentle voice set with the tearful piano while the time passes under a cherry blossom tree. Beautiful! Hopefully, we can get Shinichi back this year to reunite with Ran.

    We are back again with another wild taxi episode! The art and the animation were well done. Hopefully we can get this same consistency for the rest of the year… right? Speaking of art, they kept the classic doors!

    Found the outfits… odd. Ran was not having any of it (/≧▽≦)/

    Bit confused on how these drones are carrying this heavy looking container. Then it has an extra load to carry when the old man gets on it. I have to give respect to the old geezer piloting the drone all the way to the hospital. Who says old dogs can’t learn new tricks? He really pulled out all the stops from the heist to the escape. Unfortunately for him, we have a crazy taxi driver hot on his trail.

    I also liked the diagram. I heard that Crunchyroll was supposedly trying to ditch this detailed type setting. Hopefully, Detective Conan keeps up the great work of putting care into this.

    On another note, I thought that the minced cutlet guys was going to be in on the scheme. But, he turned out to be a relatively “normal” person. I do like that Conan, Kogoro and Ran were not having it with these costumes throughout the episode. Luckily, they were able to give them right back.

    It’s been years, but it looks like we have a new card and a new next conan’s hint visual. Plus, they are going to change the end card every month. Excited to see what other stops they are going to pull out this year!
