それでボクが犯人を推理して、平次兄ちゃんが監禁場所を突き止めたんだけど、設計者が会場にいないまま米花大チームの機体は空へ!
でもその機体には罠が仕掛けられていて…!?

The Beika University’s aircraft designer for the Birdman Rally was kidnapped at Lake Biwa!
As I was tracking down the culprit, Heiji found where he was being held captive.
With the designer still missing from the venue, the plane took off to the skies!

But a trap was set up on the plane!

We got a good idea of how the case was going last time. All that was left to do was to catch the criminal and save Masaki. In hindsight, Heiji could have got the cops to come with him in the first place. Maybe even a battering ram or a excavator would have helped get the guy out of there faster. It was so close to going off, but they were able to save him by the skin of their teeth.

On the other side of things, Kogoro acting (?) as if he was drunk and crashing the stream was hilarious. Wasn’t expecting that to bait the culprit so easily. Unfortunately for him, Ran was locked on to him immediately and took him down. Great team work from the Mouri family. With the culprit captured and Masaki saved, Ishizumi was safe to land the plane in the water with no problem.

Quite the effort to kill someone and put the guilt of doing so on the other person involved in getting your brother locked up. No sympathy whatsoever for the culprit. With all that effort he could have just moved on and did something with his life instead.

Overall, the case was just okay. There were many ways to get this resolved but for the sake of suspense and moving the plot forward, it appears they had to have Conan and Heiji act uncharacteristically in this anime original episode. Nothing we haven’t seen before but it can be a bit disappointing when the obvious thing to do is right there.

Next Episode is…?

Looks like Japan is getting a remastered episode next week: The Detective Boys and the Four Caterpillar Brothers. But, we’ll be getting a special on September 25th and looks to be interesting. Looks like it’ll be covering a counterfeit case. It’s called “The Counterfeit Case of Ultra 30” in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the anime.
