Detective Conan Episode 1164 – The 17-Year-Old Truth: The Bloody Knight

Welcome! MeitanteiBunshou here with some thoughts on Detective Conan.

After several weeks of remasters taking place in Japan, we are finally back with more canon episodes! 🎊

Unfortunately, Crunchyroll was quite late with dropping it on their site yesterday, but hopefully next week it will be smoother. I have not caught up with the manga, so I am looking forward to how this plays out. And speaking of playing, there’s a chess tournament going on both on and off the board.

This Week’s Translation

We went to the Nishi Topia building in Haido City with Ms. Kobayashi and Ms. Wakasa to cheer on Inspector Shiratori who entered a chess tournament. When Ms. Kobayashi gave him a chess piece key chain as a good luck charm, other players talked about their own superstitions that help them win. As they were in the middle of talking about how someone lost a match due to their own superstition, the tournament began. And Shiratori’s opponent is…!

The 17-Year-Old Truth: The Bloody Knight” coming up next!

Today’s Episode

Victim

Kishitani Naoto (32) Tournament Participant

Suspects

Shiroi Kurumi (31) Tournament Participant

Ogawara Kinji (37) Tournament Participant

Kisaki Kunikazu (34) Tournament Participant

Once again, we have Wakasa grilling Haibara for being too smart for a 1st grader. The faces she pulls and the way she looks at Haibara is terrifying. If Haibara was a normal kid, I’m sure she would have burst into tears. Luckily Conan decided to come to keep the heat off of her.

Wakasa has to make some moves as well when Kuroda starts trying to remember where he’s seen her before. We can tell that they have some connection to Rum in the OP so I’m looking forward to hearing more about this case from 17 years ago. Speaking of the OP, the previous ED would have fit perfectly for these episodes.

Didn’t expect Shiratori to be into chess but given his demeanor it suits him. It was sweet of Kobayashi to give him a good luck charm but that opens the conversation up to some of the suspects and the victim:

  • Kurumi wears a rook due to her last name has the kanji for “castle” and it reads as Shiroi which means white.

  • Ogawara has a glass that has the letter K on the bottom for “king” because of his name sounding like the word 王(おう ・Ou)

  • Kishitani who faces the knights toward him while playing. He even has the word for knight in his name (棋士・きし・Kishi)

  • Kisaki doesn’t believe in good luck charms.

Everyone was targeted at one point by a crossbow but Shiroi. I am glad that Conan pointed out that someone can rig a crossbow to fire. Maybe we will see the classic fishing line/wire tricks that Aoyama used to do. And we even got someone asking the real questions here.

Guys got a point

The dying message seems difficult. Still blows my mind how creative people can get when they are on the brink of death and want their killer brought to justice. Given Kishitani habit of facing the knight towards him will be a key to this.

Next Episode is…

As for the Conan Hint: Glasses Case –

One case was empty while the other had glass shards in it… things are getting curiouser and curiouser.

Until next time 👋
