In order to meet up with a client in Kanazawa, Ran and I took the Hokuriku Shinkansen with Kogoro. However, when we arrived, he said that he wanted to see the client alone. So, while I secretly placed a bug on him to listen in on the case, I did some sightseeing with Ran.

Today’s Episode

Got another mystery tour episode. These episodes showcase an actual location in Japan. This can give you some good ideas on where to go and what to try out. Like the gold leaf ice cream that Conan and Ran enjoyed in this episode.

So, for this mystery tour we take a trip to the Ishikawa Prefecture. I was a bit confused when I heard the term よるまっし (Yorumasshi) so I did some digging. It is a phrase from the Kaga dialect that is spoken in the Kaga region where the plot is taking place. It is a way to welcome someone. It has a “Come one, come all” or “Gather around” vibe to it. Would be nice to hear more of this dialect.

There were a few things I was not expecting in this episode:

1. Kogoro volunteering as a staff member for a concert

2. Conan going surfing with his potential kidnapper

3. And most of all Ran’s kabuki make-up

   

Here I am thinking “Ran should probably put a GPS on Conan’s phone” and then BAM! Really wonder how long it takes to get dressed up like this. She even made a reference to a kabuki play called Sukeroku. If interested, here’s a video talking about it.

The case seems interesting. Though I am curious how the kidnapper was able to get this footage. Besides the angle makes it seem as if it was shot from a security camera. Which brings me to the question of whether this case was investigated thoroughly 3 years ago.

We have four suspects that used to be in a band together and they all just so happen to be in the same town. Feels kind of like a high school reunion where you get to see how everyone is after a while. I am bit surprised that almost all of the members did not stay in music. But hey if I was under suspicion of stealing money (8 million yen to be precise) from a charity concert that I was performing, I can understand the desire to change careers.

And the episode ends on quite the cliffhanger. Conan is a sturdy little guy who has been through a lot of deadly situations, so I’m sure he’ll be fine along with his new surfer friend.

Not sure who is the culprit, but it seems the guitarist is a red herring. But then he was the only one around to tamper with the brakes leading to cliffhanger. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to the second part and learning more about the Ishikawa Prefecture.
