This Week in Detective Conan

But first, I’d like to talk about another work by Aoyama called Yaiba. It seems as if a lot of classics are getting the remake treatment these days. Ranma 1/2, Urusei Yatsura and now this. I’ve never read the manga or seen the anime, but you can see it referenced sometimes in Detective Conan.

Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to the “Aoyama Power Hour”. Just hope that it goes to a streaming service that I already have =_=.

Ran, Kogoro and I came to Yakushima for a case. We went to the crime scene with a mountain guide where he told us a ghost story about the Yamahime of Yakushime to us. But when we got to the Jomon Cedar tree, we saw a woman that looked like she was chased fall off of a cliff! Before she lost consciousness she muttered “Yashahime“. Anime original mystery tour set in Yakushima.

I really like episodes like this. Gives me ideas of places to go to if or when I visit Japan. Although the way they are struggling on this hike, I think I might pass up on seeing the Jomon Cedar tree (;^ω^). Heck even Ran was starting to look tired.

The production seems better than the average anime originals. The music when they were on the hike took me back to some classic Detective Conan soundtracks. They need to bring some of those back more often.

Looks like we got 4 suspects this time around. It would be interesting if Yuji is the one who did it. He has that long hair, and he could be using a similar trick that from the “Mountain Villa Bandaged Man Murder Case” used to hide their physique. If that is case, then he probably scared her when he was just “following” her around which led to the incident.

I am curious what made Kasumi run off of a cliff. Surely, she isn’t crazy enough to use this as a way to throw off suspicion. On top of that, where was her hiking gear? She would have had to come up to the mountain a lot earlier than Conan and them to get that far in.

On another note, does everyone know about Conan’s glasses now. Ran looks so confused. Like “how can you see that far”.

Maybe a railcar would be a faster way to get Kasumi to the hospital faster. In fact, maybe they should have kept the track open for emergencies like this. Looking forward to seeing how they wrap this case up.

Last Dance

Welcome. MeitanteiBunshou here with thoughts on today’s episode of Detective Conan.

But first, I’d like to talk about the opening (OP).

The new OP has been a breath of fresh air for the series. Mai Kuraki was doing the OP and ending (ED) for a long time, so I’m happy they changed it.

The OP is sung by Rainy。There seems to be a lot going on. I am not caught up on the manga, but I’m looking forward to the canon episodes coming out this year.

She also did a Haibara focused ED last year.

Alright, so back to today’s episode.

This is an anime original episode. It has nothing to do with the canon plot. Beware of spoilers for this episode.

The twitter account called conan_file likes to make a summary about the episode when it airs. They also tell this in Conan’s point of view.

As practice, I’ll translate these for every episode going forward.

A manager that Sonoko happened to know invited her to a party at his house. Ran and I went with her as guests. During the party, he got wine on his clothes and went to go change but he never came back. And then a scream rang out from the courtyard! As I followed the footprints, it led to where the manager had fell off the cliff…!

The case was simple, and it was obvious who was going to be murdered. I do like the set-up of how they killed him though. Just by looking at the footprints you can tell that this wasn’t a struggle. Someone was dancing with the victim before he plunged to his death.

At first, I didn’t get Konomi’s decision to have Rika go with her husband. He was about to hit her in front of all these guests. So, I didn’t know what made her think that he wouldn’t hit her when they were alone. Perhaps, she was going to use the maid as another foil in case framing Yoshioka didn’t work.

This Episode’s Conan Hint: Shoelaces. The etiquette for the event also helped piece this together. Switching to dancing shoes and taking off large accessories while dancing. I understand that it was dark, and he had been drinking. However, I would have found it strange if she was not wearing her dancing shoes.

I sympathized with Konomi’s motive. Being seen as nothing but a decoration. As if she was another accessory that Kensuke put on just to make himself look good. As usual, I wish there was another way to resolve it instead of murder.

Nonetheless, that was indeed one heck of a “Last Dance“.
